How to meditate: Simple meditation for beginners
Sit or lie comfortably. You may even want to invest in a meditation chair or cushion.
Close your eyes.
Make no effort to control the breath; simply breathe naturally.
Focus your attention on the breath and on how the body moves with each inhalation and exhalation.

Meditation is a practice where an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state. Scholars have found meditation difficult to define, as practices vary both between traditions and within them.

Meditation has been practiced since 1500 BCE antiquity in numerous religious traditions, often as part of the path towards enlightenment and self-realization. The earliest records of meditation (Dhyana) come from the Hindu traditions of Vedantism, and meditation has a long tradition of being a practice in Hinduism. Since the 19th century, Asian meditative techniques have spread to other cultures where they have also found application in non-spiritual contexts, such as business and health.

Meditation may be used with the aim of reducing stress, anxiety, depression, and pain, and increasing peace, perception, self-concept, and well-being. Meditation is under research to define its possible health (psychological, neurological, and cardiovascular) and other effects.

Free Online Meditation Timer
Use these convenient Meditation Gong Timers to gently time your meditation session with any device - desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone.

Each timer begins with 3 gongs to allow you to adjust the volume and settle in for meditation. The timed session is completely silent, though some desktop speakers produce their own static sound. At the end of the session, you will hear some light taps of the gong to gently forewarn you that time is up followed by three rings of the gong. The session times begin with the end of the beginning gongs and end with the start of the ending gongs.
